What are hair exosomes and what are they really used for?

Hair exosomes are one of the most requested regenerative treatments to slow down shedding and improve hair density. We explain exactly what they are, how they are applied and what kind of results can be expected.

What exactly are hair exosomes?

Exosomes are very small extracellular vesicles that carry signalling molecules between cells. When applied to the scalp, they have the ability to stimulate follicular activity, improve microcirculation and promote a regenerative environment in the treated area.

Unlike autologous growth factors, hair exosomes for clinical use are prepared under very strict laboratory standards, which means that each dose can be standardised and protocols repeated without prior blood extraction.

What are hair exosomes used for and when are they recommended?

Hair exosomes are mainly used in the following scenarios:

  • Reactive or seasonal hair shedding: to recover density after periods of stress, fever, childbirth or hormonal changes.
  • Mild to moderate androgenetic alopecia: as regenerative support alongside other medical hair protocols.
  • Loss of hair quality: fine, brittle hair lacking body or shine.
  • After hair transplantation: to optimise graft integration and the quality of the surrounding native hair.

How are hair exosomes applied at Clínica Robega?

At our clinic in Madrid, hair exosomes are applied via superficial microinjections distributed across the entire scalp. The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes and is usually combined with a prior medical assessment, scalp cleansing and, in many cases, hair laser therapy to enhance penetration of the active ingredient.

Before any hair protocol, we always recommend a medical assessment to rule out internal causes of shedding (thyroid disorders, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, etc.) and to personalise the treatment plan.

What kind of results can be expected with hair exosomes?

Results are not immediate. It is common to start noticing a change in hair quality (less brittleness, more body) around 45-60 days, with progressive improvement in density over the following 3-6 months.

As with any regenerative treatment, consistency, the home routine and medical follow-up are key to sustainable results.
